THE BALM IN GILEAD
"Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then has the health of the daughter of my people not been restored?"
— JEREMIAH 8:22 (AMP)
Jeremiah’s cry reveals a powerful truth: healing was available, yet the people remained sick. The balm of Gilead was a well-known healing ointment, and the physician symbolized accessible help. The problem was not the absence of healing—it was the refusal to receive it. This same pattern can still appear in our lives today.
God is not the author of sickness. He reveals Himself as Jehovah Rapha—the Lord who heals (Exodus 15:26). His desire has always been wholeness for His people—spirit, soul, and body. Psalm 103:2–3 reminds us: “Bless the Lord… who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases.” Healing is part of the covenant, not a rare exception.
Jesus Christ is the ultimate Balm in Gilead. Through His sacrifice, provision was made not only for sin, but for sickness. “By His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5; 1 Peter 2:24). When Christ walked the earth, He healed all who came to Him in faith (Matthew 8:16–17). The healing power was present, but it flowed to those who believed and received.
Thi year, it is possible to live a sickness-free life—not by denial, but by faith in God’s Word. Refuse to normalize what God has already redeemed you from. Choose to trust the Great Physician daily. Healing flows where faith is embraced, obedience is practiced, and God’s Word is honored. The Balm is still available. The Physician is still present. Healing is still God’s will.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are my Healer. I receive the provision of health You have made available through Jesus Christ and I refuse sickness. Let Your healing power work in me daily, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
