GO FOR THE GIVER, NOT THE GIFT

"Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

— MATTHEW 6:33

In our walk with God, it is easy to become more focused on the blessings of God than on God Himself. Many people seek the gifts—prosperity, promotion, healing, favor, but the true secret of a fulfilled life is seeking the Giver, and the gifts naturally follows.

God’s Word teaches us to pursue Him first. In Matthew 6:33, Jesus makes it clear that when we seek God’s kingdom and His righteousness above everything else, every necessary blessing will be added to us. The gifts are not meant to replace the Giver; they are expressions of His goodness. James 1:17 told us, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights.”

When God appeared to King Solomon and asked what he desired, Solomon did not ask for riches, long life, or the death of his enemies (the gifts). Instead, he asked for wisdom to lead God’s people. His heart was aligned with God’s purpose (the Giver). Because he sought what pleased God, the Lord gave him wisdom and also added wealth and honor beyond measure (1 Kings 3:9-13).

Likewise, when our relationship with God becomes our greatest pursuit, we begin to experience His fullness. The gifts of God are temporary blessings, but the Giver is eternal. A heart that seeks God will never be empty, because He Himself becomes the believer’s greatest reward.

Let your pursuit today be God Himself. Seek His presence, His will, and His righteousness. When you go for the Giver, the gifts will surely follow.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for being my greatest blessing. Let my heart desire You more than Your gifts. Draw me closer to Your presence and align my life with Your will. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
