HUMILITY BREEDS UPLIFTING

"Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up"

— JAMES 4:10

To breed means to produce, to give birth, or to bring forth. In God’s Kingdom, humility is the womb from which true upliftment is born. It is not talent, connections, or intellect that secures divine elevation—it is humility. God’s system of promotion defies human logic: He lifts the lowly and resists the proud.

James 4:6 establishes this truth clearly: “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” Grace is the divine enablement for lifting, increase, and advancement, but it flows only toward the humble. Pride positions a man against God, and to be resisted by God is to be cut off from the very source of elevation.

Proverbs 29:23 further reveals: “A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.” Pride is more than a flaw, it is a spiritual burden that pulls a man downward. Humility, however, positions a man for honor and makes him light enough to be lifted by God.

1 Peter 5:6 teaches us: “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.” The same mighty hand that exalts is the one we must first submit under. True lifting comes from surrender, not self-promotion.

Humility does not happen by chance, it must be cultivated. While pride comes naturally to the flesh, humility is a deliberate posture of the heart. Micah 6:8 reminds us, we are called “to walk humbly with thy God.” Walking with God requires humility, for only the humble can be led, shaped, and ultimately lifted by Him.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the work of Your Spirit in me. Strip me of every form of pride and self-exaltation, and clothe me with meekness. Help me to remain yielded under Your mighty hand and to walk in humility, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
