RELIABLE COMPASS
"Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee."
— PSALM 143:8
Life can often feel like a vast desert, uncertain, dry, and full of choices that seem overwhelming. In such times, it’s easy to feel lost, unsure which direction to take. But God promises to be our reliable compass, guiding our steps with His lovingkindness.
When the psalmist prayed, he was asking God to make His mercy and guidance evident each day. This is a reminder for us: God doesn’t leave us to wander aimlessly. He wants to show us the way, but we must trust Him. Trust is more than just belief, it’s surrendering our plans, fears, and understanding into His hands. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us: “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
The “way” God leads us on may not always be easy or obvious, but it is always for our good. Isaiah 30:21 says: “And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it…” Even when we feel uncertain, God speaks to our hearts, nudging us toward the path that fulfills His purpose.
Our part is to lift up our souls, just as the psalmist did, and surrender our will to His. In doing so, we align ourselves with a guidance system far more reliable than any compass or GPS: God Himself. When we trust Him and follow His direction, even the deserts of life become manageable, and we find life, peace, and purpose

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for being my reliable compass. Help me to hear Your lovingkindness, trust You completely, and follow the path You show me. Teach me to surrender my plans and walk in Your ways, knowing You will never lead me astray. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
